Discussion Post: 2.11 Maneater

Sorry, gang! We mods have been a little caught up in RL and are running behind. But let's hear what you thought about last night's ep! Fantastic, yes?


I was anticipating a truly funny episode and this didn't disappoint. I love that they're co-opting the now unemployed Stargate actors (here we got two for the price of one!), and wouldn't mind if they kept it up ad infinitum. Frankly, I've always thought that Lexa Doig was a pretty terrible actress, but now I realize that she was just miscast - the woman is a terrific comedienne. I honestly think that one line was one of the best deliveries ever given on this show. (Paraphrasing from memory:)

Stark: What do you think?
Young: I think my reputation is ruined because I just Frenched the sheriff in front of my boss.

HA!

The catfight scene was also spectacular. Alison was terrific in that as well, and Stark and Carter's reactions were just great. Plus we had the return of Taggart in this ep - YAY! - and some interesting progress on the Artifact storyline. I like that they've made it more of a personal struggle between the characters than just a big obsession for one.

I'm not sure how I feel about the new 'ships they're setting up (Jack/Callie and Jo/Zane). I mean, doomed to failure, yes? Any relationship between a lead and an irregular character is likely only temporary, so it's hard to get invested.

All in all, though, I give this one a big thumbs up!

I honestly don't know about Jo/Zane - somehow, I see him becoming more of a regular.

I like Zane. Now that he's shown he's serious about Miz Jo, I would like to see him back next season.

Jack/Callie - I really do like Callie. I think she's a sweet character and is the one who's like almost normal in Eureka compared to everyone else. :) She's not pretentious, she's serious about her interest in Jack and

But, I'm still in favor of Jack/Allison......... even if Allison is letting Stark over rule her better judgment on bringing Jack into the fold on what's going on with Kevin & the Artifact. I think Jack would understand - he's a parent and he'd do almost anything to protect Zoe.

When Stark and Allison shut Henry out w/o telling him WHY, that was not cool. I'm hoping Henry will go to Jack now, but I don't know. I think he's a bit too irked off to go tell Jack the whole truth right now and might do something not smart in the next two eps.

I agree with that. I can't see, if Alison said, "they'll take my son and make him a lab experiment," Jack not agreeing to let it go.

Then again, that would let Beverly get away with murder... Huh. Tough call. I wonder if we'll see Jack end up having to make that decision.

I think Jack would find a way to arrest and maybe prosecute Beverly for the murder w/o getting Kevin involved.

He's smart - just not genius level like everyone else in Eureka. He was a federal marshal before getting the Sheriff's job and so he knows the law inside & out, I would suspect.

Like I said - I'm tired of Allison letting Stark's obsession with the Artifact make judgments for her. She should know it's not going to end well by now because Jack's getting his memory back.

Okay, let me finish that sentence... (I'm a ditz, I admit it! :-p)

...she isn't one to hide something from him. She's very much of the honesty is the best way to be in a relationship mentality. :)

And Lexxa's line about french kissing the sheriff in front of her boss had me laughing out loud. Definitely one of the better lines in the ep.

I agree. It's nice to see a relationship on TV portray people being up-front with each other and not playing games. (Which MUST mean it's doomed!)

I loved that line as well. Lexa's delivery was just hilarious. And Nathan's one-liners at Carter's expense were hilarious too. I happen to like it when Jack's genuinely pissed at him, though, because he fires back as good as he gets. *g* Noche de Suenos was a good example of that.

Jack/Callie is starting to grow on me a bit. I still love Jack/Allison, but Allison's generally annoying me these days, so I like that Jack's not exclusive. Though, I wonder what would happen if Jack gets back the memories that Henry wiped. He'd remember years of marriage with Allison. Uber conflict! ;D That, and I'm still waiting for Allison to react to the fact that Jack's really toned down on the whole scampering after her like a puppy thing.

This whole thing with Allison and Nathan cutting off Henry's investigating is a great twist. They're keeping Jack out of the loop too, and I imagine they'll try and throw him off the scent of Kim's death as well. If Henry doesn't blow a gasket, then I think he might eventually go to Jack. Though, that makes me wonder too. Jack knows that Henry hasn't been completely honest with him about... something.

All of these secrets and the one thing everyone has in common is that they aren't telling Jack. I'm just dying to see everything blow up in their faces and they need him to fix everything and save their asses. These people are brilliant, but they're lacking in hubris. They need a nice, big plate of humble pie, I think.

Yes! That's what is bothering me about their dynamic. There's been zero acknowledgement of what's a fairly drastic change. I mean, yeah, Henry wiped Jack's memory, but presumably only back to the point of the accident. What about all the Alison-chasing Jack did before that? Where did those feelings go?

I think Jack got disappointed/cold feet/hurt when he saw her looking to get back together/reconciling with Stark. Almost like he's afraid to go after her now for fear of being burned. Also, I think he's still a bit miffed about the happenings of Nochos De Suenos - finding out that she was keeping vital information from him.

He's going to be not happy with her for a while and he's very justified in that.

I like the new ships, but I don't see why they stopped Taggert/Jo. Or even Fargo/Jo. I think maybe they couldn't get the Taggert actor for enough episodes since he's only been in like 2.

Also, Beverly just disappeared! (I think that's more actress then plot related)

But I like Callie. I'm still not a huge Stark/Alison fan - I think that's going to bite her in the butt.

I'm not a big Stark/Alison fan either, but at least they've made it more believable this season by making him less of a giant ass. You can almost see what she might have seen in him in the first place. However, it seems kind of silly that she trusts that he's as invested in protecting Kevin as she is and not just still obsessed with the artifact. I'm sure he cares about Kevin, but did he really go to OMGOBSESSED to cares-less and only wants to protect the kid? Seems doubtful.

Also? You're totally allowed time off. I should've gotten it last week. I wasn't thinking.
